Don Staniford trying to Stop the $almafia in Scotland, (and everywhere else); Paul Robinson and trying to find reason in NATO's demand its members double their military tribute in the second half.
Spending 5% of our GDP of the military will buy us what?
There is no doubt that we live in a hostile world, and that there are people that mean to bring us harm, but who are they exactly? Right now, I am at more risk of someone using AI to scape data on me to defraud me or in some other way harm me or my family, than from a foreign military invading my city.
Right now, I am more at risk from someone in Ottawa deciding on some arbitray ruling that harms me or my family because I am designated as having unsanctioned beliefs. Right now I am more at risk from some rogue billionaire using thier wealth to promote a narrative that is not true, or a civil servant deciding to cancel an early flood warning system then blame the flooding on climate change.
Fundamentally, the issue is not spending 5% of our GDP on security, but rather what is security and how to best protect our selves from a wide range of risks. (environmental protection, fire department, local accountable police force, search & rescue are all part of security)
