Welcome to Gorilla Radio, recorded July 9th, 2025.
'Talk and Log' is a negotiating tactic British Columbians fighting the erasure of ancient forests here know well. Simultaneously, nearly everyone in B.C. too agrees, open-net, sea-based salmon farms are a bad idea; bad for the ocean, bad for the wild salmon, bad for the forest. Canada's exhaustive 2012 Cohen Commission findings concurred, and said the farms should be phased out as soon as was practical. There's been a lot more talk in the thirteen years since, and the farms are still here.
Don Staniford is a self-described “Extreme Activist” and “Kayak Vigilante” who has campaigned against toxic salmon pharms for 25 years - he's currently Director of $camon $cotland and Global Director of the Real Salmon Farming Resistance. More than a dozen years ago, the Englishman lived here in B.C., and campaigned ferociously then for an end to the salmon phactories polluting our waters.
Don Staniford in the first half.
And; Canada's new prime minister, Mark Carney announced from the NATO meetings held in The Hague last month our country would devote our labours to more than doubling the amount Canadians dedicate to military related expenditures, as per the alliance's dictum. NATO would have all members do the same, to the tune of 5% of respective nations' GDP. That would mean multiple thousands of dollars extra exacted from every man, woman, and child every year to be directed to war-fighting and the preparation for more of the same.
Paul Robinson is a professor in the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa, and author of numerous books on Russian history, military history, defence policy, and military ethics. His essays are published at Canadian Dimensions, where I found his recent article, 'The Empty Case for Canada's 5% Defence Pledge'.
Paul Robinson and trying to find reason in NATO's demand its member's double their military tribute in the second half.
But first, Don Staniford trying to Stop the $almafia in Scotland, (and everywhere else).
