Chris, I need to say that I do not agree with Marc Edge about the media.

I do not want publicly funded media in any of the forms we have been accustomed to. The CBC has become little more than a propaganda arm of the State. For the last few years that has been the Liberal Government, but when a change of government happens....

"he who pays the piper sets the tune". That saying has been around for a long time, and is still true. Fundamental reform is required. Did you read the article by Alan MacLeod that just came out? https://scheerpost.com/2025/02/19/usaid-falls-exposing-a-giant-network-of-us-funded-independent-media/

What we need is citizen funded media, even if that is through our tax dollars. For me that means that every citizen gets to decide what media they want funded, which since we would have many different media that different Canadians want funded we would have many different media organizations being funded. Substack could be a model, but I would prefer having several different media organizations competing for the citizens money so that a diversity of opinions can be accessed by everyone, whether they funded it directly or not.

Thanks for this John; I agree, the CBC as constituted cannot remain, let alone receive further funding. But throwing that baby out entirely would mean never seeing a national media voice with the heft to counterbalance the US and US-controlled Canadian media.

I fear the CBC cannot be reformed. 20 years ago I listened to it all the time. Today, I don't even turn it on.

I would like to have a well funded media, but I don't want that media controlled by anyone (government, church, military, or big business). In my world, me & my neighbors would directly fund my media, and since we have the option of giving our support to a different media organization they will stay honest. Perhaps, we could designate on our tax form who gets our portion of media funding each year.
