Germany continues to surprise. Having abandoned any pretense of valuing the human rights of Palestinians amid the genocide, and criminalizing support, sympathy and solidarity expressed by its citizens both within its borders and without ofr them, it has too freely prosecuted thought crimes for those with the temerity to opine publicly about the Russia-Ukraine conflict in a manner not proscribed. At least it had done until running into Heinrich Buecher and the COOP Anti-war Café.
Buecher had taken his "toxic" opinions to the public square, where he let emanate with abandon the mind virus thus stated, “Never again may we as Germans get involved in a war against Russia in any form. We need to unite and join to oppose this madness together.” Madness to be sure, the authorities there all agreed.
The German, and general European, aversion to peace couldn't be more pertinent as Israeli attacks in Beirut and Tehran yesterday, and an apparently coordinated American attack in Baghdad, have set the World on a course to possible global conflict.
John Helmer’s a journalist and author who’s spent decades living in and reporting from Russia. He’s the principle behind the web news site, Dances with Bears, and has too been a professor of political science, sociology, and journalism, and served as advisor to governments at the highest levels.
